Feed Your Sister Chili

Chili is the perfect winter soup! This recipe makes many servings so it’s great for a large crowd. Or make a batch today & freeze half for another time!!

It’s spicy & delicious, perfect for the cold snowy days that are upon us! When you’re trapped in your home and have nothing to eat, reach for the chili in the freezer and voila you have a warm bowl of soup to fill your tum!! It goes great with avocado slices, some shredded cheddar 🧀 or a dollop of Greek yogurt or sour cream! I also like to add a few spoonfuls of brown rice or quinoa! The best part about this recipe is that it can be adapted to your dietary needs! If you don’t eat meat, just omit the turkey or add crumbled tofu. Want to make beef chili, switch out beef for the turkey! Want to make is paleo-friendly, just omit the beans and add in extra veggies such as zucchini, sweet potato and kale! There you go, the possibilities are endless!

I N G R E D I E N T S

  • 3 tbsp olive or avocado oil

  • 1 tsp pink salt

  • 1 container of mirepoix (chopped onion, carrot and celery)

  • 3 cloves garlic, chopped

  • 1 jalapeño, seeded and chopped (optional)

  • 2 red bell peppers, chopped

  • 1 pound ground turkey/beef/chicken (you can also sub in crumbled tofu)

  • 1 tbsp chili powder

  • 1 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)

  • 1 tsp cumin powder

  • 2 cups chicken or vegetable stock

  • 1 large can of diced tomatoes (28 oz)

  • 2-3 cans of beans (Black, pinto, kidney or aduki beans are great choices.)

  • 1 can of refried beans

I N S T R U C T I O N S

  1. In a large pot, add in the first six ingredients and sauté over medium heat until the onions and peppers have a chance to sweat and soften, about 5-7 minutes.

  2. Add in meat of choice or tofu. Stir around and crumble using a wooden spoon until all the meat is mostly cooked.

  3. Add in chili powder, cayenne (if using) and cumin. Stir ingredients around in the pot to prevent burning.

  4. Add in stock, diced tomatoes and all of the beans. If you are adding in extra chopped veggies, add them in now as well. Mix to combine.

  5. Let simmer for about 40 minutes.

  6. Fill your bowl with whatever toppings you’d like and enjoy!
